Below is a list of some of my favorite sites for equipment, reviews, general info and even a bit of fun.
- B&H Photo
I've used them since the age of actual mail order. If it is photography-related, they probably carry one...or two.
Maybe not as complete as BH but nearly so. Their in-house Flashpoint brand offers good value for the money.
Adorama sells through Amazon as well and sometimes the price is better. The products sold directly by Amazon are priced about a well as you can expect to find and their customer service is stellar. Besides, you can order coffee for your Keurig along with that new lens!
- KEH Camera
Excellent source for good used equipment and they offer a fair price for your old stuff if you want to sell it and get something shiny and new.
- Digital Photography Review
Been around a while. Good reviews with out overt brand bias (maybe a little). The forums are very heavily visited and can offer good advice if you weed through the brand-troll and fanboy postings.
- Imaging Resource
Reviews aren't as in-depth as DPReview but are fair and include more P&S cameras than most. Their sister site, SLRGear.com has very informative reviews of lenses.
A lot of insightful articles based on first-person experience with equipment and techniques.
Cruise Critic Message Boards
My go-to site for cruising info (my favorite photo-op source). The photo forum is friendly and very helpful, especially to newbies. Great group of regulars.
If you're going to one of the host cities, you have to get a map and track down the cows. Quirky, multi-year worldwide art project.
- Daily Dilbert
Endless source of inside humor from the office. If you've ever worked in IT, software development or other tech trade, you will swear you worked with or for some of the characters.
- What The
Not as consistently funny as Dilbert, but photography-centric and pops out the occasional gem.
Articles and news about gizmos, gadgets, inventions and all things techie. Plus some plain old fun stuff!
Very funny site! If you find those motivational posters in the break room as lame as I do, try one of Despair's "Demotivators". Great photography on their posters too!
All About Ansel Adams
Concise article about one of the iconic photographers of the last century. Might not be "all about" Ansel Adams in the six paragraphs but it is a good overview with links to more info on this truly inspirational photographer.
Best Buy Lens Buying Guide
Basic guide about types of lenses. Canon/Nikon-centric as they don't mention some basic info like crop factors for Micro Four-Thirds and that some cameras have in-body stabilization. Otherwise ther is some good basic info and of course, links to buy from Best Buy.
